Sammo Sporex

Sammo Sporex is a large complex in Sillim. The facilities date to 1992 and show their age, but it stays open 24 hours. The address is 23 Sillim-ro 59-gil, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, listed as a three to five minute walk from Sillim Station. Admission is ₩13,000 during the day and ₩16,000 at night, and the complex is open year-round with no closing day. Spread over twelve floors, the building holds far more than a bathhouse: a swimming pool, a bowling alley, a fitness club with trainers, group aerobics, yoga and dance classes, and a spa. The pool water is managed by salt-water electrolysis according to the facility. The bathing area has a warm bath and a cold bath along with a dry sauna and a steam sauna, and there is a jjimjilbang (Korean sauna lounge) with a shared common hall as well as a bulgama (traditional fire kiln). A bulgama is a kiln-shaped chamber heated to a high temperature, which you enter to warm the body in dry radiant heat. A jjimjilbang is a mixed-gender rest area where everyone wears loose cotton sauna clothes rather than bathing. After a round in the kiln you can step out to the outdoor cooling area and let the air bring your temperature back down. It can get crowded depending on the hour, which is worth planning around.
