Solved by design (same everywhere): 1 baths separated with separate entrances; 2 locker rooms single-sex; 3 everyone dressed on the common floor; 4 scrubs happen inside the women’s bath by a female scrubber — men never enter; 5 lockers use a key wristband; 6 no ID to enter, physical passport only if you sleep over; 7 visibly drunk guests are refused.

Depends on the venue (checked below): 8 whether there is a women-only sleeping room at night; 9 whether there is a separate valuables locker for passport and cash; 10 whether tattoos get you refused; 11 bathing and scrubs during your period; 12 how far you walk from the station exit at night.

Ask long-term residents and most say: check 8 and 9 and you will not have a problem alone.

Spa Lei (Jamwon-dong, Seocho · ₩22,000 · 24h) — the women-only venue Japanese women know best on the Gangnam side, with a long trail of reviews on Japanese sauna sites. Walkable from Sinsa and Jamwon stations. Kiln sauna, enzyme bath and a rooftop terrace for cooling off; there is a hotel attached if you want a bed. Points 8–11 are moot: everyone is a woman.

Chinjeongsup Fire Kiln (Mapo · bath ₩11,000 / 6h jjimjil ₩14,000 / 12h overnight ₩20,000 · 24h) — the women-only option on the Hongdae–Sinchon side. Sogang Univ. station exit 2, 320 m; Sinchon exit 7, 300 m. Night rates are explicit (bath ₩12,000, jjimjil ₩15,000) and a 12-hour overnight ticket is on the board, which is reassuring. A good fallback on a late arrival without a Hongdae bed.

Songpa Women’s Salt Kiln (Songpa · ₩11,000 / night 20:00–05:00 ₩12,000 · 24h) — the Jamsil / Lotte World side. Songpa station exit 4, 387 m; Seokchon exit 5, 350 m. Famous for its salt kiln; many stop by after a private scrub at Dano in Jamsil.

All three are small and not glamorous. In exchange, "everyone is a woman" removes the overnight and valuables worries entirely.

Sparex Good Morning City, Dongdaemun DDP (day ₩14,000 / night ₩16,000 · 24h) — 23 m from exit 13 of Dongdaemun History & Culture Park station. Almost no night walk, which is the main reason to recommend it alone. Luggage storage ₩20,000 while you shop. The sleeping room is shared, but there is a separate women’s rest area and the front desk holds valuables. Late at night it is quiet — most people are asleep.

Sparex Dongmyo (day ₩14,000 / night ₩16,000 · 24h) — 40 m from Dongmyo station exit 6, 13th floor. Newer and larger, with a women-only sleeping area. A physical ID (passport) is required to stay overnight. Hair dryers are metered, so bring coins if you have long hair.

The Park Spaland (Yeongdeungpo · ₩10,000 + ₩1,000 uniform · +₩1,000 at night · 24h) — near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office station. Cheap and open all night, but there is no formal luggage storage, so it does not suit anyone rolling a suitcase. Use a station locker first.

Three habits for the big venues: 1 put valuables at the front desk or in your wristband-key locker and do not carry your passport around; 2 pick the section marked for women in the night sleeping room; 3 keep your phone in the uniform pocket, not by your pillow. Do that and theft stories are rare.

Tattoos — unlike Japan, Korean jjimjilbangs almost never refuse you for ink. The big venues post no tattoo ban and small tattoos on arms and backs are an everyday sight in the women’s bath. Even full-body work rarely draws a word.

Periods — etiquette says skip the tubs, but the common floor (kilns, canteen, sleeping room) is clothed and fine. Many private scrub shops (Dano, ONA and others) decline during a period, so check dates when booking. At a women-only bathhouse the scrubber decides on the day.

Scrubber gender — scrubbers in the women’s bath are always women; men never enter. Private scrub shops that are women-only use female therapists; only the men-only shop (Spa Homme) uses men.

Photos — no photography in baths or locker rooms; just carrying a phone in can get you a warning. The common floor is fine as long as no one else is in frame. That strictness is, in practice, a comfort for a woman alone.

22:00 arrival — for a women-only bed, Chinjeongsup in Sinchon (300 m from the station); on the Dongdaemun side, Sparex DDP (23 m). Both are practically indoors from the subway exit, so the night walk is minimal. A 22:00 landing at Gimpo still makes it by subway.

Check-in — say you are staying and some venues (Sparex Dongmyo among them) ask for your physical passport; a copy or phone photo may be refused, so carry the real one that day. Take the wristband key and ask whether the front desk holds valuables.

Bath → common floor — one or two unhurried hours, change, go up. After 1 a.m. the common floor is mostly sleepers and quiet. Choose the section marked for women, or the wall where women have gathered.

Morning — people stir at 5–6. Shower and leave before 7 and you are early for the first trains (around 5:30). Collect any stored luggage on the way out and settle wristband extras (dryer, food).

The walk back — early-morning Dongdaemun, Sinchon and Jamsil all have foot traffic; none is a place a woman struggles to walk alone. Around Dongmyo the morning market gets crowded, so with a suitcase take the shortest line to the station.
