Korean bath facilities split into two zones. The wet bathhouse (pools, showers, saunas) is nude and fully separated by gender. The jjimjilbang zone (shared heated floors, food court, sleeping rooms) is mixed-gender and everyone wears the uniform the venue provides. So "Korean saunas are naked" only applies to the bathhouse — the social jjimjilbang area is clothed.
Where You Are Naked vs. Clothed
In the locker room you take everything off before entering the bathhouse. You must shower before getting into any pool; some people cover with a small towel, but towels never go into the water. To move to the jjimjilbang (shared area) you leave the bathhouse and change into the uniform. Once dressed, you can freely use the mixed-gender halls, food court, and sleeping rooms.
Gender Separation & Privacy — What It Is Really Like
The men's and women's bathhouses are physically fully separate, so the opposite sex never enters. Being naked feels awkward at first, but everyone is the same and no one pays attention — most people relax within a few minutes. Staring or photography is strictly forbidden, and phones are simply not brought into the bathhouse at all.
