NotesMountain onsen village of ~30 ryokan at 700m near Mt. Aso. Nyuto Tegata pass (1,500 yen) for 3-bath hopping. Shinmeikan has a 30m hand-carved cave bath. 3h by bus from Fukuoka.

Nyuto tegata pass (¥1,300) covers open-air baths at 3 of the 28 ryokan. The winter bamboo-light event "Yuakari" runs in winter. About 2.5 hours by bus from Kumamoto city.
